Okaloosa County maintains franchise agreement with Waste Management for household trash, recyclables, and yard waste at curbside disposal in the unincorporated areas of the county.

Some reminders for residents of unincorporated Okaloosa County residing in homes that have cart service and are serviced by Waste Management.

 

Wright Yard Waste Facility (Formerly Wright Landfill),   only accepts vegetative debris, wood pallets, wooden crates, small amounts of untreated lumber.

Monday-Friday: 7:00am-3:00pm

Saturday: 7:00am- Noon

  • We limit trees trimmings accepted there to 14 inches in diameter or less and no longer than 10-12 feet
  • TREATED LUMBER - Can NOT be mixed in with other trash. It can be left on tipping floor.
  • NO PLASTIC BAGS, TARPS, PLASTIC FILM of ANY TYPE
  • NO METAL, LAWN CHAIRS of ANY TYPE
  • NO CONSTRUCTION & DEMOLITION DEBRIS (C&D)
  • NO STUMPS, ROOT BALLS

 

Baker Landfill and North Transfer Station accepts the following:

Monday- Friday: 6:00am- 5:00pm, last truck accepted at 4:45pm

Saturday: 6:00am- 12 Noon,, last truck accepted at 11:45am

Yard Waste means vegetative matter resulting from landscaping maintenance, including accumulation of lawn, grass, shrubbery cuttings or clippings and dry leaf rakings, palm fronds, small tree branches (which shall not exceed six (6) feet in length and four (4) inches in diameter), bushes or shrubs, green leaf cuttings, fruits, or other matter usually created as refuse in the care of lawns and yards, except large branches, trees, or bulky or non-containerized material not susceptible to normal loading and collection in loader packer type sanitation equipment used for regular collections from domestic households. Yard waste does not include treated wood or any form of matter or debris resulting from tree removal, land clearing, land development, building demolition, home improvement, or waste generated by tree surgeons. Additionally, yard waste does not include debris generated by landscapers or lawn maintenance services when removed from the origination site and placed on another property for pick-up by FRANCHISEE.

Yard waste must be placed curbside in front of the residence away from mailboxes, telephone poles, cars and other objects that will interfere with collection and will not be collected from vacant lots.

Bulk Waste shall mean any waste that requires additional management due to its bulk or weight and shall include, household furniture, treated lumber, electronics, bicycles, push type lawn mowers with all oil and gas drained, automotive tires [excluding tires with rims; tires from commercial vehicles, heavy equipment, or industrial vehicles are prohibited; tires shall not exceed twenty (20) inches in diameter and are limited to four (4) per collection] and white goods. Bulk waste does not include any form of matter or debris resulting from tree removal, land clearing, land development, or special waste as defined herein. With the exception of individual items of household furniture and white goods, such service is limited to four (4) cubic yards per pickup.

A map illustrating franchised unincorporated Okaloosa County residential waste collection can be reviewed and/or downloaded if you CLICK HERE (Under Development).  The legend on the map indicates “Okaloosa Collection Areas 1-5”.  These franchised areas are under an exclusive service contract with Waste Management to collect residential garbage, recyclables, bulk and yard waste.  In addition to Areas 1-5, the Non-Exclusive Franchise North area is specified.  Both residential and commercial waste services are available from a variety of County approved service providers.

Municipalities have their own franchise area for both residential and commercial waste collection.

Commercial waste collection is covered under a non-exclusive commercial franchise Countywide.  Services offered through these County approved vendors varies.
